EBC and Cyprus Mariculture Association Partner to Deploy Bio-Inspired Drone Technology Protecting Mediterranean Aquaculture

Electronic Bird Control (EBC), an innovative French company specializing in advanced drone-based bird deterrence systems, and the Cyprus Mariculture Association (CMA), representing all marine aquaculture producers in Cyprus, have entered into a strategic cooperation agreement to deploy and operationalize the E-Raptor, an advanced bio-inspired drone system designed to sustainably protect aquaculture farms from bird-related damage.

CMA serves as the unified voice of the Cypriot marine aquaculture sector, representing its producers at national and European level and promoting sustainable growth, regulatory excellence and environmental responsibility.

Aquaculture operators across the Mediterranean face increasing economic losses due to protected bird species such as gulls, herons and cormorants. Traditional deterrence methods often prove ineffective, labor-intensive or environmentally intrusive. In response, CMA initiated discussions with EBC to identify a sustainable and non-lethal solution tailored to Cypriot mariculture farms.

The E-Raptor replicates the morphology and flight dynamics of a bird of prey, generating a natural territorial response among nuisance species. Equipped with advanced onboard systems and VTOL capability, it operates autonomously and integrates seamlessly into aquaculture operations without complex infrastructure requirements.

Prior to the formal agreement, a live operational demonstration was conducted at the Port of aquaculture under construction in Pentacomo, jn the presence of The French Ambassador to Cyprus Mrs. Clélia Chevrier Kolacko, Mr. Vassilis Papadopoulos, Senior Officer, Department of Fisheries and marine Research, Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Mr. Marios Tannousis, CEO, Invest Cyprus Xanthos Georgiades, Mrs. Melina Papavassiliou, honorary consul de France à Limassol, Mr. Antonis Kimonides president of the Cyprus Mariculture Association (CMA) and Mr. Philippe Amar from Lanego, test confirmed the system’s effectiveness under real operating conditions and marked the transition from innovation to operational deployment.

The cooperation was facilitated by the Embassy of France in Cyprus and LANEGO, a French strategic consulting firm supporting international innovation partnerships.

“This partnership demonstrates how European technological innovation can deliver concrete, sustainable solutions to sector-specific challenges while preserving ecological balance,” stated Adrien Laffon, CEO of EBC.

By formalizing this alliance, EBC and CMA position Cyprus at the forefront of environmentally responsible aquaculture protection strategies in the Mediterranean region, reinforcing the role of cross-border innovation in strengthening economic resilience and environmental stewardship.
